The whole Tafraout area is 1.618 km² et its people are about 28.000 inhabitants. Its climate is different than other places of Morocco. It is hot in summer and cold in winter. Tafraout is about 130 far from the ocean and is in a trough surrounded by pink granite rocks. The highest peaks in Tafraout are : Djebel Lkest at 2.374m and Adrar Mqork (great mount) at 2320m.

Tafraout is known for its festivals such as the Almond feast that is held every February. This festival attracts a big number of visitors, Moroccans and foreigners. Some years ago and because of a tough drought, people don't celebrate it anymore. But now, they are trying to get back the Almond memories. During the last two years 2005 and 2006, the cultural celebrations in Tafraout knew a great success.

Tafraout is also known for its beautiful houses with typical Berber drawing. The original people of Tafraout who quitted their villages looking after work have run successful businesses in the main cities of Morocco and also in Europe. Now they are back in Tafraout, especially in summer time to rebuild their old and ruined homes. This time with a luxuous touch. They re also interested in investing in various domains in Tafraout such as tourism such as hotels and maisons d'hôtes.
